La 'National Library of Medicine (Bliblioteca Nacional de Medicina-NLM-) de Estados Unidos con sede en Rockville Pike, Bethesda,Maryland 20894. se tiene como la más grande biblioteca de biomedicina del mundo. Produce distintas bases de datos e índices, incluyendo, Index Medicus (1879-2004), MEDLINE (desde 1971), MedlinePlus.gov (desde 1998), y Ensayo clínico.gov (desde 2002). Está compuesta por varias divisiones: The National Center for Biotechnology Information NCBI Fue establecido en 1988 como una división de NLM. Crea sistemas automáticos para almacenar y analizar conocimiento sobre biología molecular , bioquímica y genética.Facilita el uso de la base de datos y software para la comunidad científica. Actualmente desarrolla métodos avanzados sobre información basada en informática para el análisis de estructura y función en biología molecular.
